Full Fees Scholarship at CCSS

 

CCSS is proud to announce a new scholarship for the 2008/9 academic year, offered to a boy or girl from a local maintained sector school (Cambridge only), who wishes to study AS and A-Levels at CCSS with the aim of entering a UK university. The scholarship is named after one of our three founders, Paul Redhead, whose vision along with the joint founders, Hilary Kirby and Alan Dawson, helped establish CCSS in 1981.

The scholarship is worth 100% remission of fees, currently £5060 per academic term (£15180 annually), over two years of study.

The scholarship is also supported by the current students of CCSS. The Student Council is willing to consider help with travel and additional expenses on a needs basis.
 

The following criteria should be met for the award to be made:

1. The applicant must have the full support of the recommending school, supported by positive parental reports;

2. The applicant, through interview, school record and school recommendation, must demonstrate a positive match to the published values of CCSS, and must demonstrate the potential to contribute positively to the wider life of CCSS through documented examples of student leadership;

3. Parents will be asked to complete a means test form and provide validating documentation. Parents will also be required to furnish information annually regarding their current financial circumstances. Joint parental annual income should not normally exceed £30000;

4. Candidate students and their parents will be invited to visit CCSS, meet staff, tour the facilities and the student to undergo interview;

5. Minimum academic requirements are the equivalent of 5+ good GCSEs (grade C or higher);

The award is subject to termly review and one term's notice of withdrawal.

Withdrawal of funding is at the discretion of the Principal of CCSS and subject to consideration of the student's continuing good behaviour and attendance, positive leadership in the life of the College and satisfactory academic progress. The scholarship is also subject to the College's normal terms and conditions.

All applications are treated in the strictest confidence and must be made through the student's current school.

Important milestones in the process for 2007/8 are:

Noon Monday 24th March 2008: application deadline. Applicants must ask their schools to provide a letter of recommendation, along with copies of parental reports for the 2007/8 academic year, to arrive at CCSS by this date.

14th April: notification of short-list. The parents of short-listed applicants will be asked to complete a declaration of financial circumstances at this time.

6-9th May: interviews at CCSS - usually two interviews, plus representatives of the CCSS Student Council.

14 May: confirmation of decision released.
