The Cambridge ESOL exams have international status and are probably the most widely recognised and most rigorously developed exams in the world. The exams are accepted by universities and employers around the world. Besides developing language skills, they help international students to enter university. The two more advanced exams: CAE and CPE from September 2011 now attract UCAS points: For CAE 70 UCAS points are given for an A grade. For CPE 70 UCAS points are given for a C grade, 110 points for a B grade and 140 points for an A grade (which is the equivalent of an A* at A-level).
The two Cambridge ESOL exams (CAE and CPE) are in many ways more rigorous than IELTS, since they not only cover the four skills (listening, reading, writing & speaking) but they also focus on grammar and a separate paper is given to test this. Experienced teachers can tailor the course to meet students’ needs depending on their ability and how long they need to prepare.
