Bursaries

As an educational charity, CCSS takes its mission seriously. We know that for some, access to our high-quality teaching and exceptional pastoral support may be made difficult by the level of fees involved. Therefore CCSS awards over £100,000 worth of bursaries, scholarships and prizes annually, as well as other forms of financial assistance.

Bursaries help pay for tuition fees but do not cover the cost of residence in the College. They are held for a maximum of two years, and are subject to regular review. Other forms of assistance range from our subsidised fees for students under 16 at the start of the academic year to hardship funds for students whose circumstances have changed radically during their studies at CCSS. We also award a number of academic prizes at the end of the first year of a two-year course.

How we select bursary holders

We have two criteria. One is financial need, and the second is potential to make a strong contribution to the life of the College, whether that is academic or extra-curricular. We expect your family to be able to show us that it would not be possible for you to attend CCSS without financial assistance.

Financial need We assess this via a financial questionnaire.
Academic potential We expect you to have worked hard at your studies and we will look at:

- References from your previous school.
- GCSE or other examination predictions.
- Examples of your work.
- Your performance at interview.

Extra-curricular potential It is a great advantage if you have a strong record of achievement in one or more fields not directly related to academic work. We assess this through school reports, prior achievements and information you provide at interview or as part of your application.

The interview is an important part of the selection process for bursary awards and we cannot always consider applicants who are unable to visit CCSS.

Bursaries are entirely at the discretion of the Principal, and when awarded are unconditional (we do not, for example, make them dependent upon the results of examinations you are about to take).

We review each award-holder's progress on a regular basis and we reserve the right to withdraw an award if a student's behaviour or effort are unsatisfactory.
