Election night May 10, 2010

On the evening of 6th May all Government & Politics students were invited to watch the results of the General Election in a special gathering at the student dining hall.

For most of those in attendance it was their first experience of such an event but students were quickly able to grasp the significance of the events as they unfolded.

Results trickled in more slowly than in past years – and it was 4am by the time we called a halt to proceedings.  However, the results themselves were continuing to trickle in until lunchtime the following day and it was several more days before a government was formed.

It was especially interesting for students to see the emergence of a hung Parliament – that rarest of phenomena in Britain.
