Inspectors' good news for the College May 3, 2010
CCSS has received positive feedback from the Ofsted inspectors who reviewed the boarding provision at the College. Boarding at the College has been judged outstanding in three of the six inspected aspects of the provision and good in the other three, with an overall good.
Additionally the inspectors judged the College’s approach to equality and diversity as very strong: although the College’s largest nationality group is British, about 60% of CCSS students are drawn from overseas and last year more than 40 nationalities were represented. With so many of the college’s students ambitious to succeed on the international stage, this is an important element of CCSS students’ experience and the college is delighted that Ofsted recognised how well this is achieved. “Equality and diversity is strongly supported in this setting” was the inspection report conclusion.
Inspectors examined the College’s boarding houses and student dining rooms, checked boarding documentation, and spoke to students and staff.
The level of help provided to the students to keep them healthy and safe drew praise, as Inspectors commented: “The College catering service has achieved a five star rating for quality of food from the environmental health service. The College Child Protection Officer has established excellent professional links with the local authority safeguarding service.”
CCSS has also received “outstanding” marks in “helping children achieve well and enjoy what they do” and “helping children make a positive contribution”. Inspectors observed that the support for boarders to achieve their potential was “impressive “and boarders were “strongly encouraged to become good citizens in their adult life”.
Accommodation was recognised as of good quality with well-maintained boarding houses. The organisation was described as “outstanding” and inspectors noted that “it is evident that the organisation of boarding is very well managed.”
Stuart Nicholson, the Principal of CCSS said “It is a great compliment to have our boarding structures so clearly admired by inspectors. CCSS offers an approach of managed independence, which is perhaps more individual and “grown-up” than the typical school, and it is clear how well our students respond to this level of mature expectation and responsibility. The staff in charge of our boarding houses are rightly very pleased by the findings of this inspection and I am very proud of the care and professionalism they display”.
