Within college, the atmosphere is informal but mature. An atmosphere of enjoyment characterises lessons and private study, which takes place in our deliberately small and purpose-built study rooms – or in our café, whose atmosphere is like a university department café, with intelligent conversation and study mixing with chatter over coffee or lunch. Around the college, a sensibly mature, calm approach is a defining characteristic of our students.
The wide range of subjects offered means that our scientists mingle with artists, and our legal minds chat over coffee with their colleagues taking humanities courses. The college atmosphere is vibrant, sociable and warm. Working hard is a part of every day, making time to do that important extra study, but so too is time to build friendships and time to develop as an individual.
A hugely welcoming, inspirational and sociable place, CCSS is a genuine home-from-home for all our students. The college and the city provide a vast number of ways to enjoy yourself, keep busy and make friends.
Stepping out of the college buildings, our students find themselves in the centre of one of the most renowned student cities in Europe. Day and boarding students all value our location, in a stimulating but safe city, where there is always an opportunity to extend learning. The University of Cambridge and its colleges and Anglia Ruskin University’s teaching spaces and residences are all close to the CCSS buildings and the combined student community has a clear influence. Our students enjoy studying in such a prestigious and well-served student environment.
Chance of a lifetime
At CCSS, personal growth and self-motivation are valued as highly as academic achievement, and they contribute to academic excellence too. Being in the historic central core of Cambridge amidst the University departments and colleges gives CCSS students a rich vein of opportunity.
CCSS has a well-developed network of associations and affiliations with Cambridge academic, sporting and cultural organisations and the opportunities and invitations extended to our students as a result of this are priceless.
We know that the activities our students enjoy in addition to their study, teach them valuable lessons, whether these activities are sporting, cultural or recreational. and we make sure there is an extensive range of sports and activities on offer throughout the college year.
The thriving local economy and the established educational environment have resulted in Cambridge not only bursting with academic opportunities but also boasting excellent theatre, cinema, concerts, exhibitions, shops, restaurants, cafés and sports facilities. It really couldn’t be a better place to live and study!
From near and far
CCSS students come from all over the globe, with 25 nationalities usually represented, but many also come from very close by: from Cambridgeshire, and the six counties that border it, from London and from the North. This means that 40% of students in a typical year are British. The unique appeal of our student city and of course of the CCSS style and ethos are widely recognised as something very special.
