Redevelopment of our St Barnabas Residence
CCSS has been granted permission for an exciting redevelopment of our St Barnabas Road Student Residence Site. The project will include a complete refurbishment of both boarding houses – Stables and St Barnabas – and a new foyer will also be created leading into Kirby’s Dining Hall.
Designed by DPA Architects, the redevelopment will provide all students with ensuite bathroom facilities, designed to a very high specification. The new student foyer leading into Kirbys will have informal seating for reading during the day as well as being the main common room space for boarders on the St Barnabas Road Site. This light and airy space will provide attractive views onto the garden, where there will be further landscaping and an open-air loggia linking St Barnabas House to The Stables, with covered outdoor seating for staff and students to use.
Phase one begins in February 2017, with the refurbishment of St Barnabas House due to be completed at the beginning of the autumn term and the extension by October half-term. The second phase will start soon after and is due to be completed by September 2018.
Says CCSS Principal Stuart Nicholson: “We are delighted to be able to go ahead with this exciting redevelopment, which highlights our commitment to offering some of the best boarding accommodation in Cambridge and a great place for our students to both study and relax.”
