International Foundation Programme
CCSS offers an exceptional International Foundation Programme in its top-quality premises in the very centre of the safe, stunning and student-friendly city of Cambridge. There is no other Foundation course like it anywhere else, because of the quality of teaching, the location in the heart of the University of Cambridge, the diversity of nationalities in the college and the exceptional opportunities it provides.
Who is this course for?
The course is suitable for international students who have completed secondary education in their home countries and want the quickest route to convert their existing skills and qualifications into those that will be accepted by UK universities, and to prepare for degree studies in the UK. It is the only foundation course that is approved by Ofqual, the UK government regulatory authority.
What are the entry requirements?
Students require an English proficiency of at least IELTS 4.5 (or equivalent) to be permitted to join the programme, and a good standard of education at secondary level.
How is the course structured?
The programme is structured into compulsory and elective units. The compulsory units give you 100 credits, and provide the essential skills that underpin success, including intensive general and academic English in order to make very rapid progress to the academic levels needed for undergraduate study. To complete the course, you need a further 20 credits to give a total of 120 credits.
The compulsory units are:
- Developing English Language Skills (30 credits). Students holding IELTS 5.5 do not have to take this unit as they are awarded 30 credits for their IELTS qualification
- Advanced English Language Skills (20 credits)
- English for Academic Purposes (10 credits)
- Foundation Mathematics (10 credits)
- Cultural Studies (10 credits)
- Study and Communication Skills (20 credits)
Specialist subject provision allows students to choose from business subjects, mathematics and physics for the remaining 20 credits and therefore enable them to access a wide range of universities and courses. These 20 credits are earned by taking two optional pathway units, from the selection below:
- Introduction to Business (10 credits)
- Introduction to Accounting & Finance (10 credits)
- Physics (10 credits)
- Further Mathematics (10 credits)
Total Credits required – 120
