A group of our students took part in the 2017 ISA East Regional Athletics Event on 10 May, held at the University of Cambridge Wilberforce Road Sports Ground. It was a glorious day, the sun shone and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. In total thirteen schools took part and there were events for all age groups. Our CCSS students took part in a variety of events which included:

  • 100m, 200m, 400m and 1500m sprint
  • 110m hurdles
  • Discus
  • Javelin
  • High Jump
  • Long Jump
  • 4 x 100m Relay

Sasha having won the gold medal in the 1500m sprint the previous year was full of confidence and was optimistic about his chances. In possibly the race of the day Sasha led a pack of three for the majority of the race, finally taking third place and receiving the bronze medal. Sasha also took part in the Discus and with an outstanding performance finished in first place receiving the gold medal.

Maria at her first ever competitive athletics event took part in the 1500m sprint. It was a competitive category and Maria ran a good race to finish in sixth place.

On Tega’s first ever attempt at the 110m hurdles he narrowly missed out on a silver medal picking up third place and the bronze medal.

Anthony performed extremely well in the High Jump event, and finished with the joint highest jump of the day. Due to Anthony having more failed attempts in previous heats he was beaten to the gold and received the silver medal.

George took part in the 100m sprint and Nicolo took part in the 400m sprint both ran extremely good races but were beaten to the top spots.

Sulaiman, took part in the very competitive Javelin event, finishing in third place and taking the bronze medal.

Robin was the clear winner of the Long Jump event finishing a good 35cm ahead of the second placed athlete to pick up the gold medal.

In the final event of the competition, the CCSS 4 x 100m relay team, which included Anthony, Tega, George and Robin went up against some of the winners from the earlier sprint events. With clean baton changes the CCSS team emerged from the first 200m in third place. In the final 200m there was a great battle between CCSS and the team in fourth place, exchanging places twice. In the end our CCSS team finished in fourth place.

A very well done to all our students who took part in the 2017 ISA East Regional Athletics Competition.
