Model United Nations Conference
Model United Nations Conference – CCSS students join the debate
On Sunday 10 March, nine students from CCSS took a coach down to Merchants Taylors’ School in Northwood, Hertfordshire to take part in their Model United Nations (MUN) conference. This was the first time that Merchant Taylors’ School was hosting an MUN and was also the birthday of one of our students, Antonio, so there was a great atmosphere of excitement.
Our students were representing one of two countries, Malaysia or Peru, and got stuck into their committees as soon as the opening ceremony was finished. Each committee was debating different issues including the Israel-Palestine conflict, water security, financial inclusion for women, plastic pollution and the post-antibiotic era. The topics were challenging ones but enjoyable to debate nevertheless. There was also a midway break which included cake, ice cream and brownies which disappeared rather quickly!
At the end of the day, everyone came together in the hall for the general assembly, welcomed in by the sounds of Antonio playing the piano. The resolutions were presented, and prizes awarded for the conference, and the day was wrapped up nicely with the closing ceremony. After a long but enjoyable day, the coach was very quiet on the way back to Cambridge, full of sleeping students!
